Disney's Jungle Book Betting Frenzy

The Jungle Book is a 2016 American fantasy adventure film directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. The screenplay is written by Justin Marks, based on Rudyard Kipling's eponymous classic collection of stories. It stars Neel Sethi as Mowgli and features the voices of Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong'o, Scarlett Johansson, Giancarlo Esposito, and Christopher Walken.

In the film, a young boy named Mowgli is abducted from his home in the jungle by Shere Khan the tiger. A panther named Bagheera finds him and takes him back to the jungle to live with his animal family. Mowgli soon becomes friends with Baloo the bear and Bhageera's ward, but Shere Khan continues to pursue him. After five years of living in the jungle, Mowgli learns that he is not alone in wanting to leave; Baloo and Bhageera tell him that Shere Khan killed his father and mother many years ago. Mowgli soon comes across Kaa who hypnotizes him into revealing that he plans to take over Akela's leadership of the wolf pack by murdering Akela.

Mowgli escapes and tells Akela what happened; upon hearing this news, Akela leads an army to confront Shere Khan at his lair before he can kill any other animals. In the ensuing battle, Akela is fatally wounded by Shere Khan but allows Mowgli to help him finish off the Tiger before dying himself. Mowgli then takes control of Akela's pack and returns to human civilization where he finally re-unites with his family.

Disney's Jungle Book was one of last year's most anticipated films given its ties to Rudyard Kipling's eponymous classic collection of stories as well as its star-studded cast which includes Bill Murray (who plays Baloo), Ben Kingsley (who plays Bagheera), Idris Elba (who plays Shere Khan), Lupita Nyong'o (who voices Raksha), Scarlett Johansson (who voices Kaa) and Christopher Walken (who voices King Louie). The film premiered at Alice Tully Hall on April 4th last year before hitting theatres on April 15th and going on to become a box office success - earning over $358 million against a production budget of $175 million - leading some movie pundits to predict that it could go on to contend for this year's Academy Awards ceremony.

The concept for Jungle Book was first pitched way back in 1994 but it wasn't until 2012 when Disney announced that they had hired Justin Marks - who has previously written for Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li and War Horse - to pen a new screenplay adaptation from scratch that things started moving forward again; Marks would eventually spend two years meticulously researching Kipling's works in order find material whichhonoured both the original author's vision while also making allowances for Disney's trademarked 'family entertainment' brand. Favreau was eventually brought onboard as director early 2014 and principal photography kicked off in Los Angeles later that year using cutting edge motion capture technology which would allow live actors like Murray & Kingsley perform alongside their digital counterparts; actress Neel Sethi was actually selected from over 2,000 kids who auditioned for the lead role of Mowgli after Favreau was knocked out by the youngster's maturity & self-possession during his audition video.

Given all this backstory it perhaps isn't too surprising that Jungle Book turns out be a pretty darn good movie - albeit one which arguably errs slightly too much on the side of family-friendly cuteness at times than more mature themes explored in Kipling's source material (notably healthy debates about loyalty & belonging). Still there are enough thrilling set pieces & excellent performances here (particularly from Murray & Elba) make it engaging viewing even for adults even if it won't quite challenge your thinking in same way as something like Life Of Pi did upon its release back in 2012.
